There has been a lot of research done over the years with regards to
Personality Types. This little list
probably doesn't even begin to cover the material that is available.
But there's plenty of good reading here, and lots of options for those of
you who are interested in learning more about Personality Types.

Please Understand Me II, Temperament, Character, and Intelligence,
by David Keirsey, Prometheus Nemesis Book Company, 1998.
Keirsey has developed a theory of character temperaments which at times
complements traditional personality type theory, and at times "goes it's own
way". This book describes his theories, and gives portraits of
the 16 personality types. You will also find a copy of the "Keirsey
Temperament Sorter" with this book, which is Keirsey's attempt to determine
Personality Type. An excellent introduction to type theories.
